The Employment Act 1955 has served as the foundation of Malaysian employment law, and with the newly gazetted Employment (Amendment) Act 2022 which took effect on 1 January 2023, it is expected to significantly change the country’s employment landscape. Employers would need to revise their operational structure, such as in the adjustment of work hours, expansion of the scope of overtime entitlement and the enhancement of hospitalisation leave among other things and ensure that their policies and procedures complied with the latest regulations.
